Folksy Friday

Once again Friday has really snuck up on me - this past week has whizzed by! And I was visited by the sales fairy last night. Yay! I sold one of my personalized buntings, so I have a day of cutting and embroidering ahead of me. I'm gonna stick on a DVD and blanket stitch the day away!

These adorable little owls can be made by you! The crochet pattern for these fellows is sold by reeneegurumi.

So I have no idea what my plans are for this weekend. There's some talk of a trip to Belfast, but if not there's a Foyle Days festival on in the city that looks interesting. Either way I have some sewing to do!

Three Things

Three things that have made me smile on this beautiful day are:

my new breakfast of choice - blueberries, strawberries and yogurt - nom nom;

Learn Something New

If you cast your minds back to the beginning of the year I made my first new year's resolutions in many many years. For those of you who missed them, here they are. Well anyways most of them are going well - lagging a bit on the make things for me resolution, but before now I've been totally stumped with number 10 - Learn Something New.

My Parents usually come over to stay during the last week of May so that's usually when my garden gets any attention. Maybe now would be a good time to mention that my Dad is a gardener! So basically everything I have in my garden is what's available for planting in late May.

I have a slight crush on these pansies that I planted last week.

So I've decided that my Learn Something New resolution will be Gardening. I obviously know some of the basics so I'm not starting from scratch, but I only really know how to water and weed. I want to learn how to grow something from seed, what time of year I need to plant different flowers and veggies, what needs direct sunlight, what can be grown in shallow soil etc.

They are the most beautiful shade of flowers I have ever seen! "Summer Embers" I think they're called.

So I'm gonna start putting together a folder of information - I could buy a few books but I'd rather check them out of the library and copy out the useful stuff. And of course pick my Dad's brain as he knows everything there is to know about every species of plant known to man! Well maybe not every single one, but he is very knowledgeable.

And if I enlist the help of this wise and handsome fellow I'm sure my little garden will be in full bloom very soon. This lovely kitty is Starsky, lord of our little Park, who frequently comes over the fence for a belly tickle and a chin scratch. He's great company on my daily watering round!

Crafty Projects

Well things are finally back to normal after being away then having visitors to stay. So now I have time to show you the going away presents I made for my sister before she left for Canada.

A wee square makeup pouch (tutorial found here), and a passport cover, both made from Russian doll fabric.

Also a brooch that I embroidered onto fulled wool that Jane from Snapdragon was kind enough to give me. It's a triskell design that matches my sister's tattoo.

I've also been knitting like crazy over the past couple of weeks trying to finish off presents for BFs nieces 2nd birthday.

Today is 8 days past their birthday but due to my OCD I had to start one of them over. Oops! But I should have them done today - yay! Can you tell what they are yet?

I have really caught the knitting bug again recently - I love it. So after these are done I think I'm gonna start with some Jean Greenhowe Christmas knitting. First up is this wee man:

Yes yes I know Christmas is months and months away but if I wait until it's closer to the time I'll be too busy making Christmas stock and presents to make anything for myself! That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

Full Bloom

Well Norris the Gnome must have been belting out those Phil Collins hits full blast because my dad's garden is in full bloom!





All those beautiful colours! I have garden envy. We have lots of gravel and stone in our back yard, but it's been spruced up somewhat by some beautiful pansies, sweet peas and veggies this week. A few weeks of watering and feeding and I too should be getting a bit of colour. Happy Days!
